Bobby Moynihan hopes that current Saturday Night Live cast members have "a good therapist and good sleep."

The SNL vet also recalls the "fever dream" writing session that led to Tom Hanks' Halloween icon David S. Pumpkins.

Moynihan can next be heard as Man-Bat in the Batman animated series Bat-Fam on Prime Video.

Bobby Moynihan has some words of wisdom for the past and present Saturday Night Live cast.

The comedian, who performed on the sketch show from 2008 until 2017, offered his two cents on the recent cast shakeup during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Wait, what happened?" he jokes before explaining that cast turnover is business as usual. "No, it happens all the time. It happens all the time. It's what that show is. It's people coming in and coming out and living their lives and having a great time."

He continues, "I wish them all luck, and I wish the ones who are there that they have a good therapist and good sleep."

Moynihan tells EW that he keeps up with the show, but usually doesn't watch it live.

"I'm old, so I catch it in the morning," he says. "It's very rare that I stay up and watch it live. And I live in L.A., so it's only on at 8:30, so that's even worse."

SNL lost five cast members before season 51 began earlier this month: Heidi Gardner, who had been on the show for eight years; Ego Nwodim, whose tenure lasted seven seasons; Michael Longfellow, who performed on the show for three seasons; Devon Walker, who also worked on the show for three seasons; and Emil Wakim, who departed after just one year as a featured player.

The show also added five new featured players: Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska. Marshall previously worked on the show as a writer, and appeared in numerous pre-recorded segments as part of the comedy trio Please Don't Destroy.

Elsewhere in his conversation with EW, Moynihan shares his memories of co-writing the iconic David S. Pumpkins Halloween sketch that starred Tom Hanks as a baffling pumpkin-suited figure.

"It was Halloween that week, and Tom Hanks was there, and we literally said, 'What can we write that'll get in the Halloween special every year?'" Moynihan explains. "And we started joking around, we're like, 'I always play Santa. I just spent nine years playing Santa Claus. I was the heaviest one on the show.' And so I was like, 'There's no Santa for Halloween.'"

Moynihan says that he and his co-writers, Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, eventually settled on their unusual vision for a Santa-Claus-esque Halloween avatar. "We started joking around saying, 'What if it was just a guy named David Pumpkins?'" he remembers. "And then Mikey and I had another idea about these dancing things, and we kind of mixed up the two. It was 3 o'clock in the morning. It was a fever dream, and we went like, 'I don't know, man, what are we doing? I guess we're just writing this for just to be weird.'"

Once the writers landed on a script that they found hilarious, they handed it in. "Tom Hanks hated it and asked us to give it to somebody else," Moynihan remembers. "And we said no. And then in between dress rehearsal and air, Tom Hanks went like, 'I'm just going to be weird.' And we were like, 'Yeah, great.' And he lost his mind on air and did something super weird and silly and it worked. We got lucky."

Moynihan can next be heard as the voice of Man-Bat on the Prime Video Batman animated series Bat-Fam.

"It's the best," Moynihan says of the series. "The whole cast is amazing. The art style is one of my favorite animated things I've ever seen. I love playing Man-Bat, and I think Batman fans are going to dig it, which is fantastic."

The show also stars Luke Wilson as Batman, James Cromwell as Alfred, Yonas Kibreab as Damian Wayne, and Haley Tju as Claire. Bat-Fam premieres on Prime Video on Nov. 10.
