Kansas City Chiefs rookie left tackle Josh Simmons will reportedly return to the team "in a few weeks" as he deals with a "family situation," according to ESPN's Nate Taylor.

Simmons, the Chiefs' 2025 first-round draft pick, has been away since Oct. 12 when he left to fly back to his hometown of San Diego hours before their win over the Detroit Lions. At the time the team said the Ohio State product was absent due to a personal reason.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that while Simmons has been away for two weeks, it's not for "negative" reasons.

"There's communication, and everything is positive," Reid said Thursday. "It's not a negative situation, so he's taking care of family. He's just taking care of business. That's the main thing. When you deal with this, that's what you do.

"He's been very good about communicating."

Simmons started in each of the Chiefs' first five games this season before being listed as "questionable" and ultimately "out" before the Week 6 game against the Lions.

"I'll keep conversations kind of between us," Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said last week. "But I'm always praying for him. I'm praying for all my teammates, so I'm always praying for him. I'll just keep everything else kind of private to us."

Jaylon Moore, who the Chiefs signed last offseason to a two-year, $30 million contract, has started at left tackle in Simmons' place.

In Simmons' absence, the Chiefs have won two in a row to improve their record to 4-3 on the season.
