The story behind Lady Gaga's next-level 'Devil Wears Prada 2' cameo

Spoiler alert! We're discussing details about a major cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2” (in theaters now). Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want to know what happens.

USA TODAY

It’s been the worst-kept secret in Hollywood.

Over the last few weeks,Lady Gagahas sparked feverish speculation that she would make a cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” In early April, she released the soundtrack’s pulsing lead single “Runway,” a house-pop stomper with rapper Doechii. And early last week, the superstar walked the red carpet at the sequel’s glitzy New York premiere.

Now, we can confirm that Gaga does indeed appear briefly in the new movie as herself.

After a slew of budget cuts, Runway magazine can no longer afford to fly John Legend and his piano to Italy to perform during their show at Milan Fashion Week. At the suggestion of right-hand man Nigel (Stanley Tucci), editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) reluctantly agrees to call in a favor and ask Gaga, even though she says that Gaga is "impossible" and that her last Runway cover nearly "killed me."

Lady Gaga attends "The Devil Wears Prada 2" New York premiere on April 20.

The two women briefly congregate backstage for an amusingly chilly meeting. "I was surprised to hear from you," Gaga dryly tells Miranda. "You don't like me."

"Oh, what an absurd notion," Miranda responds with a forced laugh. "You are such a favorite, and we are so grateful that you're doing this for us."

"Well, of course I'm doing it," Gaga says. "Nigel said I'd never get another cover if I didn't do it."

Miranda leaves the dressing room with a half-hearted "break a leg," and Gaga snaps at her team, "Who let her in here?!"

As models strut down a circular runway, Gaga takes the stage to perform “Shape of a Woman” − one of three new songs that she recorded for “Prada 2,” including end-credits anthem “Glamorous Life.”

Simone Ashley, who plays Miranda’s new assistant Amari, says it was “an amazing honor” to share the screen with both Gaga and Streep backstage at the fashion show.

“I wasn’t actually meant to be in that scene,” Ashley recalls. “I was in my sweats eating an orange when one of the [assistant directors] came in like, ‘We need you in the scene! It’s Gaga day!’” As it turns out, “she is the most wonderful, grounded, kind human being. To get to work with her and Meryl, it was just like, ‘Don’t fall down! Don’t fall down!’ ”

Costume designer Molly Rogers was similarly verklempt after encountering the 16-time Grammy winner.

“I have never felt so fangirl,” Rogers says with a chuckle. “I literally wasn't functioning like my normal self. I mean, I'm in fitting rooms with Meryl and Emily Blunt and Annie Hathaway, but Gaga? She is next level. We went to see her in concert and I was just daunted by her. She was looking at me like, ‘So what’re we going to do?’ And I was like, ‘Whatarewe going to do?!’ ”

Gaga is dressed in archival Versace during her extravagant performance. But because she was in the middle ofher Mayhem Ball tourwhen “Prada 2” filmed last summer, Rogers also wanted to incorporate some elements of her “Mayhem” album era into the movie. As a result, she wears a jewel-encrusted headpiece and carries a cane reminiscent ofher “Abracadabra” video.

“We found that sequined helmet in this crazy rental place in Rome,” Rogers recalls. “We went in there and just raided it, because it was all about giving her a heightened concert moment.”

Basketball recruiting top 2026 players, where they will play in college

1, Tyran Stokes (Seattle, WA) - committed to Kansas

Top mid-major players on the move in college basketball transfer portal

Cruz Davis, Texas Tech (Hofstra)

Texas Tech landed its Christian Anderson replacement in former Hofstra guard Cruz Davis, the CAA Player of the Year in 2026. Davis averaged 20.1 points with 4.7 assists last season, and was No. 37 inUSA TODAY Sports' transfer portal player rankingsbefore committing.

The Plano, Texas product fared well vs Power conference teams last season, scoring 17 vs. UCF, 36 vs. Pitt and 22 vs. Syracuse, and will be a key piece to Grant McCasland's Red Raiders reload without Anderson gone andJT Toppin coming back from an ACL injury.

Paulius Murauskas,Arizona State(Saint Mary’s)

The 6-8 Lithuanian was ranked No. 7 in USA TODAY Sports' portal player rankings after averaging 18.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for a 27-win Saint Mary’s team last season. Unsurprisingly, the first-team All-West Coast Conference pick followedformer Gaels coach Randy Bennett to Arizona State, where he was hired to replace Bobby Hurley.

Alex Wilkins, Kentucky (Furman)

From a zero-star recruitto Big Blue Nationin the span of a year. Wilkins had a standout freshman season for the Southern Conference champions and led the league in field goals made. The 6-5 guard averaged a team-high 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game. In the NCAA Tournament, the No. 28 player in USA TODAY Sports’ portal rankings showed he could compete against elite competition, scoring 21 points in a competitive game against eventual national runner-up UConn. With three years of eligibility, he’ll be more than just a quick rental, which will help Mark Pope try to find some much-needed stability in Lexington.

Ryan Sabol, Providence (Buffalo)

If Lundblade was one of the top available shooters in the portal, Sabol quite possibly wasthetop shooter available in the portal. Sabol's 3.8 made 3s per game were third-most in the nation, and he did so at 39.9% clip.

He averaged 18.8 points per game and had 14 games where he hit at least five 3-pointers. He'll be a good fit for Bryan Hodgson's system in Providence. Hodgson's South Florida team led the American Conference in scoring last season and was second in the league in made 3s.

Tyler Lundblade, Tennessee (Belmont)

The reigning Missouri Valley Conference player of the year was one of the top shooters available in the portal and fills a clear need for the Vols, who need to replace their top six scorers from this past season. The former walk-on made 40.6% of his 3-pointers despite having a high shooting volume, with 8.8 attempts per game from beyond the arc. Tennessee's top returning 3-point shooters (Ethan Burg and Troy Henderson) had 15 makes all season.

Terrence Hill Jr., Tennessee (VCU)

Terrence Hill Jr. helped VCU upset North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament. He'll take his game to Tennessee in 2026-27.

Let's stay on Rocky Top. The sophomore had a breakout season in 2025-26, averaging 15 points a game on 46.6% shooting. He showed he won't be scared by brand names after scoring 34 points against North Carolina in the Rams' first round in the NCAA Tournament.

Hill only started two games for VCU last season, but beginning in January, he routinely played 30-plus minutes, providing a spark off the bench.

Drew Scharnowski, Duke (Belmont)

Duke had a clear need in the post with Cameron Boozer headed for the NBA Draft lottery and Maliq Brown out of eligibility. The 6-9 Scharnowski could slot alongside returning Blue Devils center Patrick Ngongba II or provide valuable frontcourt depth. A first-team All-MVC pick, Scharnowski was the No. 50 player in USA TODAY’s portal rankings after averaging 10.7 points, six rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a sophomore for a Belmont team that went 26-6. He was a strong presence down low, too, with 1.3 blocks per game. At the start of the portal process, the prevailing thought was Scharnowski would follow former Belmont coach Casey Alexander to Kansas State. The big man set his sights higher and will test himself in the Blue Devils crucible.

Tyrone Riley IV, Oregon (San Francisco)

Riley will get plenty of run as the Ducks return justoneplayer from last season's roster.

The 6-6 junior wing has 65 starts under his belt and averaged 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and one steal a game last season for the Dons. He shot 47.2% from the field and 36.8% from 3 on his way to a second-team All-WCC selection.

In games against Power conference foes Minnesota, Colorado and Mississippi State (OK, maybe not a murderer's row), Riley averaged 14 ppg, and he put up 17 points on Saint Louis and 16 vs. Gonzaga.

Jaquan Johnson, Iowa State (Bradley)

Bradley's Jaquan Johnson looks like a perfect fit for Iowa State to replace graduating point guard Tamin Lipsey.

How would Iowa State replace Tamin Lipsey? The Cyclones point guard started all 137 games he played for ISU and left as the school's all-time steals leader and fourth in career assists.

Enter, Johnson. About as seamless of a fit as you could hope for if you're the Cyclones. He took an enormous leap from his freshman to his sophomore season, improving his scoring average from 6.6 to 16.9 points per game to help him earn first-team All-MVC honors, MVC most improved player and all-defensive team honors (thanks to his 2.6 steals per game).

He is only 5-11, which could cause some problems against bigger, more athletic competition in a major conference, but his all-around production is impressive, with 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

Gavin Doty, Syracuse (Siena)

Doty is followingGerry McNamara from Siena to Syracuseand did just about everything he could to try to pull off a stunning 16-over-1 upset over Duke in the NCAA Tournament, scoring a team-high 21 points in a 71-65 first-round loss. The 6-5 sophomore led the Saints in scoring at 18 points per game and was an excellent rebounder for someone his size, pulling down a team-high 6.9 boards per game.

He won't be an unknown to McNamara, and his near-immediate commitment to the Orange says a lot about his coach's belief that Doty can scale up from the MAAC to the ACC.

Yankees set for Elmer Rodríguez's big league pitching debut as roster shuffling continues

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Right-hander Elmer Rodríguez, one of the Yankees' top prospects, is set for his major league debut Wednesday as New York tweaks the bottom of the rotation while awaiting the return of Carlos Rodón.

Associated Press

Rodríguez was already in the Yankees clubhouse Tuesday, telling the story of the late-night summons at a hotel informing him that he was headed to Texas with a plan to start the finale of a three-game series against the Rangers.

The Yankees have been shuffling their roster, but still have a move to make to clear space for the 22-year-old who pitched for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic last month.

Infielder Max Schuemann was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesdayin place of Giancarlo Stanton, who went on the 10-day injured list after straining his right calf Friday in Houston.

Rodríguez is taking right-hander Luis Gil's spot in the rotation after Gil was sent to Triple-A following a rough start in a7-4 loss to the Astros.

The Yankees filled Gil's place on the roster with outfielder Jasson Domínguez, who was in the lineup against the Rangers as the designated hitter for the second consecutive game Tuesday night.

Manager Aaron Boone declined to say what roster move was coming to make room for Rodríguez, who had a 1.27 ERA in four Triple-A starts this year after climbing from Class A to Triple-A last season.

“He’s impressive,” Boone said. “I’ve really been impressed with a lot of our young guys that are kind of knocking on the door, Elmer included in that, about to be big leaguers, feel like they have a chance to be longtime big leaguers. As well as being a talented pitcher, he seems to have a really good way and makeup about him that should serve him well.”

Rodríguez pitched three scoreless innings in his only WBC appearance for his native Puerto Rico.

“It was a great experience to pitch there and obviously close to the same thing you're going to have here in the bigs,” said Rodríguez, who said his family was in transit to see him face 15-year veteran Nathan Eovaldi of the Rangers. “I feel like it just prepared me more and gave me a little bit of getting my feet wet.”

Boone estimated Rodríguez would get at least two starts as the Yankees anticipate the return of Rodón, the left-hander awaiting his season debut coming off left elbow surgery in October.Rodón made his first rehab startlast week.

The Yankees decided to put Rodríguez in front of the other starters because it was close to his scheduled Tuesday start in Triple-A. New York is off Thursday, which means right-hander Will Warren is the likely starter Friday night at home against Baltimore.

Boone has said he is hopeful Stanton will be ready to come off the IL as soon as he's eligible, but won't commit to a timetable. Neither will the 36-year-old slugger who has dealt with similar issues throughout his career.

“I really don’t have much for you guys,” Stanton said Tuesday. “I’ve got to move around. It’s good that it’s not a high grade, but at the same time, you’ve got to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

  • Wolfgang Van Halen inherited his father Eddie Van Halen’s musical talent, showing interest in instruments as a baby

  • Wolfgang and wife Andraia Allsop joined his mom on The Drew Barrymore Show, where they recalled falling in love after meeting on Instagram

Valerie Bertinelliis opening up about the inspiration for her son’s musical name.

During an appearance onThe Drew Barrymore Showalongside son Wolfgang Van Halen and his wife, Andraia Allsop, the celebrity chef noted that he’s named after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

“Now looking back, it's like how could I saddle some man with Wolfgang and Van Halen?” she asked. “It's like, what if he doesn't become a musician? But the thing is, our house always had instruments, like there was guitars on every wall, there was a piano, there was a drum set.”

She said she could tell even at a young age that her musician son, now, 35, inherited his father Eddie Van Halen’s talent.

“So even as a little baby before he could walk, you could see if you watch the ‘Distance’ video, you can see him just constantly plucking on strings and just fascinated by what Ed was doing on the guitar. It was always in him.”

Bertinelli, 65, was married to the late Van Halen frontman from 1981 until 2007. Eddie died from cancer in October 2020 at age 65. Following his dad’s death, Wolfgang released the song “Distance” with his band Mammoth as a tribute.

When Bertinelli admitted she worried about her son entering the music business, which she said “tried to destroy his father,” host Barrymore suggested that he’s stayed grounded because he has “a good mom looking out for him.”

“I like to say that Wolfie is the man he is in spite of me and Ed,” Bertinelli said. “We made a lot of mistakes, but in the end he always had unconditional love.”

Wolfgang and Andraia also recalled falling in love after meeting on Instagram, eight years before theytied the knotin an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home in October 2023.

“At the time that it felt funny, but now in hindsight seeing like what has developed with the way people meet now, it's not that uncommon anymore,” he said.

“We went to get sushi and then we ended up watching the stars in Malibu in a hammock and we laid there for like four hours and we probably saw like six shooting stars,” he remembered. “Iif you were, like, one of those superstitious people it's like, ‘Oh yeah, like the universe is telling us that like we're stupid to ignore any of the signs.’”
