King Charlesheaded to Harlem during his andQueen Camilla's day in New York City.

The British monarch made a solo stop at an urban farm in Harlem, arriving around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 29, and was greeted by Tony Hillery, founder and chief executive of Harlem Grown, a nonprofit that operates urban farms to provide youth development programming. There, he was shown by Harlem Grown members and schoolchildren from Thurgood Marshall Lower Academy around the raised beds, greenhouse, tool shed, composting station, chicken coops, bee hives and more in the middle of a city block.

At one point, one of the students had a compliment for the King: "I like your hair," the child said.

“Do you? Good,” King Charles replied.

King Charles, 77, was enthusiastic about feeding chickens — after all, he tends to the animals back in the U.K., and his flock lives in acoop dubbed Cluckingham Palace. Hillery had to coax the monarch away from the chickens to continue the tour.

Hillery was left with a special gift: honey from bees at Highgrove House, one of the King’s residences.

After the farm visit, the King stopped to shake a few hands of onlookers waiting behind a barricade.

“I’m sure I’m ruining your day,” the King said, referencing the street closure that was part of the security measures surrounding the monarch's visit.

While King Charles was in Harlem,Queen Camillahad herown solo event. The Queen, 78, celebrated the U.S. and the U.K.'s shared love of literature and her charity,The Queen's Reading Room, at the New York Public Library, and guests included Sarah Jessica Parker, Jenna Bush Hager, Anna Wintour and more.

With the Pirates leading 2-0, four Pittsburgh pitchers combined to shut down the Cardinals through 6 2/3 innings before Alec Burleson legged out a two-out, infield single off Evan Sisk in the seventh.

Pages' and Wetherholt’s home runs off Dennis Santana (2-2) lifted the Cardinals into a 2-all tie before Fermin’s double into the left-field corner scored Victor Scott II and Burleson, giving St. Louis a 4-2 lead.

Ryan Fernandez (1-0) earned the win and George Soriano got a ground out, strikeout and, after a single by Nick Gonzales, a fly out for his first save as the Cardinals snapped a four-game skid.

Pittsburgh opener Mason Montgomery and Justin Lawrence each pitched an inning and Wilber Dotel worked the next four, striking out three. Sisk pitched two-thirds of an inning before he replaced by Isaac Mattson after allowing the Cardinals' first hit. The Pirates carried their two-run lead into the ninth before Santana blew the save.

The Pirates scored one run in each of the first two innings on RBI singles by Ryan O’Hearn and Jake Mangum off Dustin May In six innings, May allowed two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Burleson and Fermin had two hits apiece for St. Louis. The Pirates got two hits each from Gonzales and Mangum.

Olivia Pichardo is a reluctant groundbreaker as a woman in baseball

In her ideal world, Olivia Pichardo would just play ball and not take attention away from her teammates.

“Sometimes it feels a little ridiculous,” she told The Associated Press, “but it’s something I understand is going to happen. That's not what my primary focus is ever on.”

Pichardo has grown accustomed to being the only girl on her baseball team during her years in Little League, high school and travel ball. Four years ago she tried out for the Brown University team, made it and early in her freshman season became thefirst woman to appear in a Division I gamewhen she pinch-hit against Bryant.

On her senior day last Saturday, she became the first woman to pitch in a Division I game when she got the final out in a key win over Cornell.

“I feel like sometimes it might distract a bit too much from the success of our team,” Pichardo said. “We just made the playoffs for the first time since 2007, so that’s a huge accomplishment, and I wouldn’t want to take away from that."

Pichardo was listed as an outfielder and pitcher her first three years and focused only on pitching this season. The fact she stuck it out four years might seem surprising. Brown has played 151 games since Pichardo arrived, and she has appeared in only six. She pinch-hit once as a freshman, once as a sophomore and three times as a junior, when she also played right field for an inning and caught two flies.

Until Saturday, she hadn't appeared in a game this season, let alone warmed up in the bullpen. With Brown leading Cornell 16-3 in the ninth inning, coach Frank Holbrook's plan was to have little-used reliever Ty Harris get the first two outs and have Pichardo finish.

The 5-foot-7, 165-pound Pichardo has a four-pitch repertoire that includes a low-80s four-seam fastball to go with a sinker, changeup and curve. She entered with the bases loaded and threw two fastballs to Tyler Beaulieu, who grounded out to short to end Brown's 16-4 win.

Pichardo said she has never had any problem melding with her teammates. She prefers just being one of the guys and not taking spotlight away from the team. She does, however, understand the magnitude of what she’s accomplished, not just in college but also in summer ball. In 2023, she became the first woman to hit a home run in a summer league,connecting for Sag Harborin the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.

“It’s important for inspiring the younger generation of female baseball players, give them some kind of hope, I guess, that if they want to play at the collegiate level, no matter what division, that door is open for them and it is possible,” she said.

Pichardo, who graduates this spring with a degree in business economics, has been able to capitalize on name, image and likeness opportunities as the most visible woman in college baseball. She's in her third year as an endorser for the baseball equipment and apparel company Warstic Sports and she has a deal with Topps Allen & Ginter baseball cards.

Once Brown's season ends, she'll turn her attention to trying out for the U.S. women's team that will play in the group stage of the 2027 World Cup. She has been a regular on Team USA since 2022 and pitched against Japan in the 2024 World Cup in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Pichardo said she's been grateful for every baseball opportunity since her father signed her up for a league in her hometown of Queens, New York, when she was 6.

“He didn't have any sons, so I like to say I was his designated son,” she said. “I've always been able to play at every level that I've progressed to, so there was never any reason for me to stop playing baseball just because I didn't see other women in the same space as me. It was my first sport, my first love and I knew I wanted to try and play at the highest level possible.”

FCC orders Disney to file for early license renewal after Kimmel clash

The Federal Communications Commission has directed Walt Disney Co. to file early license renewal applications for its ABC television stations, citing an ongoing investigation, a day after President Trump called on the company tofire comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

The FCC said in its order that it is investigating ABC stations for "possible violations" of the Communications Act of 1934 and the agency's prohibition on unlawful discrimination. An FCC official told CBS News that the order is related to the agency's investigation into Disney's diversity, equity and inclusion practices, which the official said has been ongoing since March 2025.

In a statement to CBS News, Disney said it has received the FCC's order for an accelerated review of its ABC-owned television stations.

"ABC and its stations have a long record of operating in full compliance with FCC rules and serving their local communities with trusted news, emergency information, and public‑interest programming," a Disney spokesperson said. "We are confident that the record demonstrates our continued qualifications as licensees under the Communications Act and the First Amendment and are prepared to show that through the appropriate legal channels."

The ABC licenses were originally scheduled for renewal between 2028 and 2031. The companyownseight TV stations, including WABC-TV in New York and KABC-TV in Los Angeles.

Trump calls for Kimmel firing

The FCC order comes after President Trump and Melania Trump urged ABC tofire Kimmelafter he made a joke during his April 23 show in which he described the first lady as having "the glow of an expectant widow." In the program, Kimmel pretended to deliver a comedy routine at the upcoming White House Correspondents' Dinner. His program aired two days before the event.

In the aftermath of the dinner, in which an alleged gunman shot aSecret Service agentat the Washington, D.C., ballroom where the Trumps had gathered, the first lady said that ABC should "take a stand" against Kimmel.

"Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking," Mr. Trumpwrotein an April 27 post on social media. "I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel's despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale."

He added, "Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC."

Kimmel defended his joke during hisMonday night monologue, describing the routine as centering on the Trumps' 23-year age difference. The routine was "a very light roast joke about the fact that he's almost 80 and she's younger than I am. It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination. And they know that," Kimmel said.

Trump, who turns 80 in June, is the oldest U.S. president to take office. His wife, a former model who was born in Slovenia, is 56.

Kimmel also defended his First Amendment rights, saying, "Donald Trump is allowed to say whatever he wants to say, as are you and as am I, as are all of us, because under the First Amendment, we have as Americans the right to free speech."

Festering feud

The issue marks the second clash between the FCC and Disney within the last year, with ABC preempting "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in September after criticism of comments Kimmel made on his late-night TV show followingthe shooting deathof conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

At the time, FCC Chairman Brendan Carrreferred toKimmel's comments as "some of the sickest conduct possible," and said there was a "path forward for suspension over this."

The FCC doesn't have the authority to cancel broadcasters' licenses "because of their perceived political views," Jameel Jaffer, executive director at the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, said in an email to CBS News.

Al-Shaair's extension comes after he enjoyed a career-best season in 2025. He totaled 103 tackles – his second-most in a single season – while notching a career-best two interceptions and nine pass defenses and allowing an 80.3 passer rating.

Al-Shaair was named to his first career Pro Bowl as a result of his strong 2025 campaign. He was also the Texans' nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

The Texans kept Al-Shaair despite trade overtures from the Dallas Cowboys,ESPN's Todd Archer reports. The Cowboys pursued Al-Shaair beforeacquiring linebacker Dee Wintersfrom the San Francisco 49ers during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Retaining Al-Shaair could prove critical for the Texans. Both he and fellow starting linebackerHenry To'oTo'owere set to be free agents following the 2026 season. The 79-year-old president made headlines on Tuesday when hepaused in the middle of a televised speech at the White Houseto jokingly inform his wife,Melania Trump, 56, that they likely wouldn’t beat his parents’ 63-year-long marriage record.

"And, uh, excuse me, if you don't mind, that's a record we won't be able to match, darling,” Trump said, drawing laughs from those onstage. “I’m sorry, it's just not going to work out that way. We'll do well, but we're not going to do that well.”

One person who wasn’t laughing? Kimmel, who addressed the president’s age-related joke in his opening monologue on Tuesday night. “Wait a minute, did he just make a joke about his death?” the host questioned. “My God. You should be fired for that!”

He continued, “Only Donald Trump would demand I be fired for making a joke about his old age and then a day later, go out and make a joke about his own old age!”

Trump demanded that Disney and ABC fire Kimmel in the wake of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting because, days before the incident occurred, Kimmelhosted his own mock version of the event onJimmy Kimmel Live, where he teased that the First Lady had “a glow like an expectant widow.”

Melania similarlydenounced the quip in a rare X post in the aftermath of the incident, stating that “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoricis intended to divide our country” and requesting that ABC “take a stand.”

Kimmeladdressed the Trumps’ remarks on Monday’s episode ofJimmy Kimmel Live,sharing his relief that “no one was hurt” at the event and explaining the joke to them.

"It was a very light roast joke about the fact that [Trump] is almost 80 and she's younger than I am,” he said. “It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination, and they know that I've been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular."

He added, “I am sorry that you and the president and everyone in that room on Saturday went through that. I really am. Just because no one get got killed doesn't mean it wasn't traumatic and scary. We should come together andbe best. We really should.”

One day after the president called for Kimmel’s dismissal, the Federal Communications Commission, which is headed by Trump appointee Brendan Carr,ordered the Walt Disney Company to submit early renewals of its TV stations. The company must now file the renewals, which were previously scheduled to be renewed between 2028 and 2031, for all of its stations within the next 30 days.

Several celebrities have come forward to defend Kimmel following the backlash he's received over the joke, including Gayle King, whoreacted to the situation on Monday’s episode ofCBS Mornings.“Jimmy Kimmel is not some crazy person who would wish the president to be killed," she insisted. "That's... he just would not do that."

George Clooneyalso spoke out about the "heated" controversy while attending the 51st Chaplin Award Gala. “When one side is calling anyone they disagree with traitors to the country, which is a charge that’s punishable by death, just because they don’t agree with someone, I think the rhetoric is a little too heated,” he said.

Ex-NBA player Damon Jones first to plead guilty in pair of gambling cases

Former NBA player Damon Jones became the first person toplead guiltyin a pair of federal indictments involving34 defendants, including some with alleged links to the mafia and other NBA figures.

Jones, 49, was among three people charged in both indictments, one of which focused on poker schemes in which wealthy victims were allegedly lured to play in rigged games against athletes. The other focuses on sports betting, accusing the formerCleveland Cavaliersguard of using inside information to place bets.

In total, Jones pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud conspiracy Tuesday.

Reading from a prepared statement inside Brooklyn federal court in the first of two hearings, Jones acknowledged he used "insider information" he obtained from the relationships he made during his time as a player, the Associated Press reported.

He apologized to his family, colleagues and the NBA as part of his statement.

CBS News has reached out to his attorney for comment.

In the sports betting case, federal prosecutors accused Jones of sending a tip about "a prominent NBA player, saying: 'Get a big bet onMilwaukeetonight before the information is out! [Player 3] is out tonight.'" Heappears to be referring to LeBron James, a former teammate and longtime friend. James is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors have not indicated that pleas are expected for other defendants in the sports betting cases. On Monday,Miami HeatplayerTerry Rozierwhopleaded not guiltyto charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, appeared in court for a motionto dismisshis case.

Instead, federal prosecutors said during the hearing that they intend to bring additional charges – including bribery and wire fraud – against the NBA star by mid-May.

Prosecutors accused Jones of participating in a rigged poker game in Las Vegas in 2019, court documents said, that used a device described as a "rigged shuffling machine" that was secretly altered to read the cards. The FBI said a victim was defrauded of $50,000 in that game.

Eleven other defendants caught up in the investigation areset to make pleaagreements.

Jones' sentencing is set for Jan. 6, 2027, the AP reported.
