LOS ANGELES -- Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez each hit a pair of home runs, Blake Snell went seven strong innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a 10-5 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of their National League wild-card series on Tuesday.

Tommy Edman added a homer as the defending champion Dodgers moved a victory away from a matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series.

The Dodgers' five home runs tied a franchise record for a playoff game.

Snell (1-0) gave up two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk in his first playoff start since 2022, when he was a member of the San Diego Padres.

Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits, including three home runs, in three innings as the Reds continue to search for their first playoff victory since 2012. He struck out four and walked two. Elly De La Cruz drove in two runs and scored one for Cincinnati.

The Reds' offense came to life late, scoring all five runs over the final three innings.

Ohtani turned around a 100.4 mph fastball from Greene in the opening inning with a line-drive home run to right field that came off the bat at 117.7 mph.

"It was a really hard pitch to hit, but I felt like I reacted pretty well and I was glad to help the team score early," Ohtani said.

Los Angeles took control in the third when Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy walked with one out and Hernandez hit a home run to left field for a 4-0 lead.

"It was a big homer from Teo, and overall from the lineup we have been able to move guys over, score early and score with runners in scoring position," Ohtani said. "So I think we had a pretty good flow to the game today."

Edman followed two pitches later with a long ball down the right field line.

Reds manager Terry Francona said of Greene, "He didn't locate, and he threw a couple of breaking balls -- one to Teoscar and the next one to Edman -- that wasn't where he was trying to throw them. And when he didn't locate, he really paid the price for it. ... If you make a mistake, they can really make you pay."

In the fifth, Hernandez added his second home run, this one off Connor Phillips for a 6-0 advantage. It was his second career multi-homer game in the postseason, as he accomplished the feat for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022.

Ohtani added his second homer in the sixth, also against Phillips, for his first postseason multi-homer game. Ohtani's power display came after a 55-homer regular season that broke his own franchise record set last season.

De La Cruz got the Reds on the scoreboard in the seventh with an RBI grounder before scoring on a Tyler Stephenson double. The Dodgers got the runs right back on an error by Reds right fielder Noelvi Marte and an RBI single from Ben Rortvedt to go up 10-2.

The wayward Dodgers bullpen struggled in its first inning of the playoffs as Alex Vesia, Edgardo Henriquez and Jack Dreyer all pitched in the eighth, combining to allow three runs with four walks. The Reds' Sal Stewart and De La Cruz each had a bases-loaded walk, and Spencer Steer had an RBI single.

"It's a big deficit," Francona said. "That's a lot to ask, but they kept playing and that's what you're supposed to do."

Lively, 38, shared a post to Instagram on Tuesday, Sept. 30, thanking her collaborators at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits for stocking the drinks in its retail stores, located primarily in Florida and California.

She also thanked the minds behind her vivid ensemble, from the shoes and her lacy two-piece set to the jewelry. "Big shout out to @eliesaabworld for making me feel so fancy 🍓 🙏🥰," she wrote.

"And always to the bold and kind @particulieres.nyc for having the best taste in vintage jewelry 🩵💍 (ring pictured) and @mariatash for the cute earrings 🩵🩵."

Along with showcasing the stylists and designers behind the look, she called out her Chanel shoes — and confessed she's had them for over a decade. "[Shout out] to me for being a hoarder and keeping these gorgeous Chanel shoes since 2009. :)"

Earlier this year, Lively's beverage company launched vodka iced teas in two flavors, Meyer Lemonade and Passion Fruit.

In the Tuesday, Sept. 30 Instagram, Lively honored all the team members who worked on the product, saying they've all "worked so hard and so personally on every single flavor and also every element of the design."

"Getting to share it with you and see you love them too, makes us feel so proud and grateful," she wrote. "Your support and enthusiasm means the world to us. It makes all the hard work pay off."

Lively previously opened up to PEOPLE about the launch, explaining how her Southern upbringing motivated her to create the spiked teas.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency was already reeling from massive stuff cuts and dramatic shifts in priority and policy. A government shutdown raises new questions about how it can carry out its founding mission of protecting America's health and environment with little more than skeletal staff and funding.

In President Donald Trump's second term, the EPA has leaned hard into an agenda of deregulation and facilitating Trump's boosting of fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal to meet what he has called an energy emergency.

Jeremy Symons, a former EPA policy official under President Bill Clinton, said it's natural to worry that a shutdown will lead "the worst polluters" to treat it as a chance to dump toxic pollution without getting caught.

"Nobody will be holding polluters accountable for what they dump into the air we breathe, in the water we drink while EPA is shut down," said Symons, now a senior adviser to the Environmental Protection Network, a group of former agency officials advocating for a strong Earth-friendly department.

"This administration has already been implementing a serial shutdown of EPA," Symons said. "Whittling away at EPA's ability to do its job."

A scientific study of pollution from about 200 coal-fired power plants during the 2018-2019 government shutdown found they "significantly increased their particulate matter emissions due to the EPA's furlough." Soot pollution is connected to thousands of deaths per year in the United States.

The birth of EPA

The EPA was created under Republican President Richard Nixon in 1970 amid growing fears about pollution of the planet's air, land and water. Its first administrator, William D. Ruckelshaus, spoke of the need for an "environmental ethic" in his first speech.

"Each of us must begin to realize our own relationship to the environment," Ruckelshaus said. "Each of us must begin to measure the impact of our own decisions and actions on the quality of air, water, and soil of this nation."

In the time since then, it has focused on safeguarding and cleaning up the environment, and over the past couple of decades, it also added fighting climate change to its charge.

EPA's job is essentially setting up standards for what's healthy for people and the environment, giving money to state and local governments to get that done and then coming down as Earth's police officer if it isn't.

"Protecting human health and the environment is critical to the country's overall well-being," said Christine Todd Whitman, who was EPA chief under Republican President George W. Bush. "Anything that stops that regulatory process puts us at a disadvantage and endangers the public."

But priorities change with presidential administrations.

Earlier this year, Trump's new EPA chief Lee Zeldin unveiled five pillars for the agency. The first is to ensure clean air, land and water. Right behind it is to "restore American energy dominance," followed by environmental permitting reform, making U.S. the capital of artificial intelligence and protecting American auto jobs.

Zeldin is seeking to rescind a 2009 science-based finding that climate change is a threat to America's health and well-being. Known as the "endangerment" finding, it forms the foundation of a range of rules that limit pollution from cars, power plants and other sources. Zeldin also has proposed ending a requirement that large, mostly industrial polluters report their planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions, canceled billions of dollars in solar energy grants and eliminated a research and development division.

Agency's shutdown plan

The EPA's shutdown contingency plan, first written a decade ago and slightly for this year, says 905 employees are considered essential because they are necessary to protect life and property or because they perform duties needed by law. An additional 828 employees can keep working because they aren't funded by the annual federal budget and instead get their pay from fees and such.

EPA officials won't say how many employees they have cut — former officials now at the Environmental Protection Network say it's 25% — but the Trump administration's budget plan says the agency now has 14,130 employees, down 1,000 from a year ago. The administration is proposing cutting that to 12,856 in this upcoming budget year and Zeldin has talked of going to levels of around Ronald Reagan's presidency, which started at around 11,000.

The agency's shutdown plan calls for it to stop doing non-criminal pollution inspections needed to enforce clean air and water rules. It won't issue new grants to other governmental agencies, update its website, issue new permits, approve state requests dealing with pollution regulations or conduct most scientific research, according to the EPA document. Except in situations where the public health would be at risk, work on Superfund cleanup sites will stop.

Marc Boom, a former EPA policy official during the Biden administration, said inspections under the Chemical Accident Risk Reduction program would halt. Those are done under the Clean Air Act to make sure facilities are adequately managing the risk of chemical accidents.

"Communities near the facilities will have their risk exposure go up immediately since accidents will be more likely to occur," Boom said.

He also said EPA hotlines for reporting water and other pollution problems likely will be closed. "So if your water tastes off later this week, there will be no one at EPA to pick up the phone," he said.

"The quality of water coming out of your tap is directly tied to whether EPA is doing its job," said Jeanne Briskin, a former 40-year EPA employee who once headed the children's health protection division.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. government shut down much of its operations on Wednesday as deep partisan divisions prevented Congress and the White House from reaching a funding deal, setting off what could be a long, grueling standoff that could lead to the loss of thousands of federal jobs.

There was no clear path out of the impasse, while agencies warned that the 15th government shutdown since 1981 would halt the release of a closely watched September employment report, slow air travel, suspend scientific research, withhold pay from U.S. troops and lead to the furlough of 750,000 federal workers at a daily cost of $400 million.

Trump, whose campaign to radically reshape the federal government is already on track to push out some 300,000 workers by December, warned congressional Democrats that a shutdown could clear the path for "irreversible" actions including cutting more jobs and programs.

The shutdown commenced hours after the Senate rejected a short-term spending measure that would have kept government operations afloat through November 21.

Democrats opposed the legislation over Republicans' refusal to attach an extension of health benefits for millions of Americans that are due to expire at the end of the year. Republicans say the issue must be addressed separately.

At issue on the government funding front is $1.7 trillion for agency operations, which amounts to roughly one-quarter of the government's total $7 trillion budget. Much of the remainder goes to health and retirement programs and interest payments on the growing $37.5 trillion debt.

Independent analysts warn the shutdown could last longer than the budget-related closures of the past, with Trump and White House officials threatening to punish Democrats with cuts to government programs and the federal payroll.

Trump budget director Russell Vought, who has called for "less bipartisan" appropriations, threatened permanent layoffs last week in the event of a shutdown.

Wall Street futures slipped, gold struck a record high and Asian stocks wavered as investors worried about delays in the release of key data and the impact of job losses. The dollar hovered near a one-week low versus major peers.

The longest government shutdown in U.S. history stretched over 35 days during December 2018 and January 2019 during Trump's first term in office, in a dispute over border security.

"All they want to do is try to bully us. And they're not going to succeed," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said in a floor speech a day after a White House meeting with Trump and other congressional leaders that ended with the two parties far apart.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune described the failed short-term spending bill as a "nonpartisan" measure devoid of partisan policy riders that Democrats have had no problem accepting in years past.

"What's changed is, President Trump is in the White House. That's what this is about. This is politics. And there isn't any substantive reason why there ought to be a government shutdown," the South Dakota Republican told reporters.

Trump's Republicans hold majorities in both chambers of Congress, but legislative rules require 60 of the 100 senators to agree on spending legislation. That means that at least seven Democrats are needed to pass a funding bill.

Democrats are under pressure from their frustrated supporters to score a rare victory ahead of the 2026 midterm elections that will determine control of Congress for the final two years of Trump's term.

The healthcare push has given them a chance to unite behind an issue that resonates with voters.

Along with the extended health subsidies, Democrats have also sought to ensure that Trump will not be able to undo those changes if they are signed into law. Trump has refused to spend billions of dollars approved by Congress, prompting some Democrats to question why they should vote for any spending legislation at all.

University of Chicago professor Robert Pape said the unusually polarized U.S. political climate in the aftermath of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination and the growing power on the extreme wings of both parties could make it harder for party leaders to agree on a deal to reopen the government.

"The rules of politics are radically changing and we can't know for sure where all of this is going to end," said University of Chicago political science professor Robert Pape, who studies political violence.

"Each side would have to backtrack against tens of millions of truly aggressive supporters, their own constituents, which is going to be really hard for them to do," he said.

Before the shutdown, Trump reached out to his own supporters with a deepfake video showing manipulated images of Schumer appearing to criticize Democrats while top House Democrat Hakeem Jeffries stood next to him, with a crudely drawn sombrero and mustache imposed over his face.

"It was childish. It was petty," Schumer told reporters. "It's something that a 5-year-old would do, not a president of the United States. But it shows how unserious they are. They don't give a damn about the harm they will cause with their shutdown."

It appears Ryan Murphy has seen the calls for him to tackle a series about Luigi Mangione, the young man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson late last year.

The Emmy-winning television creator and writer revealed that he has, in fact, considered developing a season of his Netflix true crime anthology Monster about Mangione while speaking to Variety for a larger profile on Charlie Hunnam, who is set to portray serial killer and body snatcher Ed Gein in the upcoming season 3 of Monster.

"We have a 'maybe one day' file," Murphy said of stories that just aren't ready yet, confirming that Mangione is on his radar. However, it's still much too early to map out that narrative. "We know nothing about him," Murphy said. "There was nothing to write — we didn't have information yet. Maybe something will come out in the trial."

Mangione, a 26-year-old from Maryland, captured national attention after he was taken into custody for the fatal shooting of Thompson during the early hours of Dec. 4, 2024 outside of a hotel in Manhattan. Prosecutors have maintained that Mangione was driven by anger against the health care industry and corporate greed, citing personal diary entries obtained following his arrest.

Mangione was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in April on 11 counts, including one count of murder in the first degree and other weapons and forgery charges. He faces life in prison without possibility of parole if convicted. Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, also faces charges in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested after a week-long manhunt.

Murphy fans have been campaigning for a series about Mangione since the arrest, making note of the uncanny resemblance between him and actor Dave Franco. Franco is well aware of the fervent fan casting. "I've never received more texts in my life about anything," Franco told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year about the folks who've reached out about a Mangione project.

"Not just friends — anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it," Franco said, adding that no official offers have come in just yet.

Several documentaries about Mangione have already been released, including Hulu and 20/20's Manhunt: Luigi Mangione and the CEO Murder and HBO Max's Who is Luigi Mangione? Alex Gibney, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind 2007's Taxi to the Dark Side, is also developing a project about the shooting.

NEW YORK (AP) — Like thousands of actors, Tilly Norwood is looking for a Hollywood agent.

But unlike most young performers aspiring to make it in the film industry, Tilly Norwood is an entirely artificial intelligence-made character. Norwood, dubbed Hollywood's first "AI actor," is the product of a company named Xicoia, which bills itself as the world's first artificial intelligence talent studio.

Since the Dutch producer and comedian Eline Van der Velden launched the digital character's prospective career, Tilly Norwood has been all the talk in Hollywood.

But not in a good way. Guilds, actors and filmmakers have met the Xicoia product with an immediate wave of backlash, protesting that artificial intelligence should not have a starring role in the acting profession. In a statement Tuesday, the Screen Actors Guild said that "creativity is, and should remain, human-centered."

"To be clear, 'Tilly Norwood' is not an actor, it's a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation," the guild said. "It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we've seen, audiences aren't interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience."

Van der Velden, founder of the AI production studio Particle6, last weekend promoted Tilly Norwood at the Zurich Summit, the industry sidebar of the Zurich Film Festival. She said then that talent agencies were circling Norwood and that she expected to soon announce a signing.

Many in Hollywood, though, hope that never happens.

"Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this, drop their a$$," wrote actor Melissa Barrera ("In the Heights," "Scream") on social media. "How gross, read the room."

"Any talent agency that engages in this should be boycotted by all guilds," wrote Natasha Lyonne on Instagram. The "Russian Doll" star is directing a feature titled "Uncanny Valley" that pledges to use "ethical" artificial intelligence in combination with traditional filmmaking techniques. "Deeply misguided & totally disturbed," she added. "Not the way. Not the vibe. Not the use."

Artificial intelligence is often used as a tool in film production, though its implementation is hotly debated. It was a major bargaining point in the lengthy strike by SAG-AFTRA that concluded in late 2023 with some safeguards put in place to protect the use of actors' likenesses and performances by AI. A yearlong strike by video game actors hinged on AI protections. In July, video game actors approved a new contract that mandates employers obtain written permission to create a digital replica.

But there have been numerous controversies over the use of AI in acting. The Oscar-winning 2024 film "The Brutalist" used artificial intelligence for Hungarian dialogue spoken by Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones' characters, the revelation of which prompted debate in the industry.

Van der Velden responded to the stir around Tilly Norwood on Instagram.

"To those who have expressed anger over the creation of my AI character, Tilly Norwood, she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work — a piece of art," Van der Velden said on Sunday. "Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity."

Van der Velden didn't respond to interview requests Tuesday. In her post, she argued that AI characters should be judged as their own genre.

"Creating Tilly has been, for me, an act of imagination and craftsmanship, not unlike drawing a character, writing a role or shaping a performance," she added. "It takes time, skill and iteration to bring such a character to life."

That statement was also shared on Tilly Norwood's own Instagram account. Posts include photos of the creation drinking coffee, shopping for clothes and preparing for various projects. As of Tuesday, the account had more than 33,000 followers.

"Had such a blast filming some screen tests recently," one post reads. "Every day feels like a step closer to the big screen."

A'ja Wilson poured in 35 points, Jackie Young had career playoff highs of 32 points and 10 assists and the Las Vegas Aces punched their ticket to the WNBA Finals with a 107-98 overtime victory over the visiting Indiana Fever on Tuesday.

The second-seeded Aces won the best-of-five semifinal series 3-2 and will face the fourth-seeded Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA Finals, which will begin Friday in Las Vegas. The Aces are making their third trip to the finals in four years after winning the title in 2022 and 2023.

Wilson and Young became the first teammates to each register 30-plus points in a WNBA playoff game.

Chelsea Gray scored eight of her 17 points in overtime for Las Vegas, which won 16 straight games to end the regular season.

The short-handed Fever, seeded sixth, pushed the game to overtime even after losing star guard Kelsey Mitchell to injury and seeing center Aliyah Boston foul out late in regulation. Odyssey Sims led six Fever players in double figures with 27 points while adding six assists. Natasha Howard scored 16 points, and Boston paired 11 points with 16 rebounds.

Mitchell had 15 points before leaving the game in the third quarter with a noncontact leg injury. During the same play on which Boston received her fifth foul, Mitchell signaled for medical attention while grabbing at her left knee.

What appeared to be a potential leg cramp turned into several minutes of trainers working on the leg before Mitchell was able to stand and walk off with assistance.

The Fever made 9 of 14 field-goal attempts in the fourth quarter to dig out of a 77-68 deficit in the last 7 1/2 minutes. Boston sank a layup and Sims hit two free throws to tie it at 84 before Boston was called for a loose-ball foul with 27.1 seconds to go, her disqualifying sixth of the game. Indiana unsuccessfully challenged the call.

Young made two free throws, and the Fever used their reset timeout to advance the ball. Wilson tried and failed to steal the inbound pass to Sims, who took it in for a layup with 22.5 seconds left to tie the game 86-86 and ultimately set up overtime.

Las Vegas' first three field goals of overtime were threes, one by Jewell Loyd and two by Gray. In the final minute, Shey Peddy's trey cut a six-point Indiana deficit in half, but Young's pair of foul shots with 20 seconds left cemented the result.

In the first half alone, there were 13 lead changes and 14 ties while neither team led by more than five points. Las Vegas was up 47-45 at the break.

Wilson scored 13 points in the third period, including the Aces' final seven -- a triple, two free throws and a 2-pointer -- as Las Vegas built a 71-63 advantage with 10 minutes to go.

A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces are looking to accomplish something only done once before by winning a third WNBA championship in four seasons. Standing in the way are the Phoenix Mercury, who are making their first championship appearance since 2021.

The WNBA Finals will begin Friday in Las Vegas between the second-seed Aces and No. 4 seed Mercury. This year for the first time the two teams will play in a best-of-seven format as the league expanded its championship round from a five-game series.

The Aces were pushed to the brink in both the opening round of the playoffs and in the semifinals where they beat Indiana in overtime in a decisive Game 5 on Tuesday night.

"People counted us out, but we're making it to the finals," Wilson said. "We're not done yet."

In the beginning of August, the Aces looked down and out as they sat at .500 and were coming off a record home loss to Minnesota. The team responded winning its final 16 regular season games to improbably clinch the No. 2 seed.

They are back in the championship round after losing to New York in the semifinals last season. Las Vegas won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. Only Houston has won three titles in a four year stretch when the Comets won the first four championships in league history.

Phoenix is trying for its first championship since 2014. The Mercury had a tough road to get back to the Finals for the first time in four years. They topped both the defending champion New York Liberty in the opening round and the No. 1 seed Minnesota Lynx in the semifinals to reach the WNBA Finals.

The Mercury have felt they have been the underdog all season. It's no surprise with the retirement of Diana Taurasi and the departure of Brittney Griner as a free agent. The Mercury rebuilt a talented roster quickly with the additions of Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally and DeWanna Bonner.

Kahleah Copper, one of the franchises two returning players from last season, missed the first 11 games while recovering from arthroscopic left knee surgery.

"No one has had expectations for us except ourselves," Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts said. "The pride and the togetherness for such a new group, it's pretty impressive."

Bonner was a late addition to the team, joining as a free agent midway through the year. She's no stranger to Phoenix though, helping the Mercury win titles in 2009 and 2014. After struggling for most of the playoffs, she had a huge fourth quarter in the Game 4 win over Minnesota that advanced the Mercury to the Finals.

"I'm sure that there were people wondering why I was playing DB at times in this series," Tibbetts said after the game. "We went and got her for this reason. I told her after the game, the first games weren't a big enough moment for her. She needed the fourth quarter to step up. And, I mean, she hit some big 3s. And you know, her experience, that's why you go get a player like that."

The Aces won three of the four meetings between the teams during the regular season. A trio of the matchups were decided by six points or less.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill underwent a "major knee procedure" Tuesday to repair his torn ACL and other ligament damage, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed.

Hill will miss at least the rest of the 2025 season after dislocating his left knee and suffering the ligament tears during Monday's 27-21 victory over the New York Jets.

McDaniel told reporters that he had heard "good things" about any nerve damage to Hill's knee and said the eight-time Pro Bowler may not need more surgeries beyond Tuesday.

"It hasn't been deemed to be anything beyond this surgery and we're very hopeful for it to turn out well," McDaniel said. "But no, it hasn't been explained (that multiple surgeries are) an absolute necessity. It's just executing this procedure and seeing what happens from there."

Hill was injured when he caught a 10-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa near the New York sideline with 13:21 left in the third quarter. His leg twisted awkwardly as he was going out of bounds, and Hill immediately grabbed for the knee.

While being carted off with an air cast on his leg, Hill forcefully clapped his hands several times, smiled and laughed in response to the crowd.

"He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I've ever -- it's just such a terrible experience when you go out and see guys when they have issues like that," McDaniel said immediately after the game. "But he immediately had wide eyes and was talking, 'I'm good. Just make sure the guys get this win.' He was focused on the team."

Those high spirits continued Tuesday, when Hill posted a video to social media showing him in a hospital bed before his surgery.

"Keep your boy in your prayers," Hill said. "You guys have been awesome, man. Fins Nation, just the whole entire NFL has been amazing, sending me lots of love, lots of prayers. I'm absolutely honored."

Hill, 31, had six receptions for 67 yards before exiting. He has 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown in four games this season.

Hill is in his fourth season with the Dolphins after playing his first six campaigns with the Chiefs. Hill helped Kansas City win the Super Bowl after the 2019 season. He is a five-time first-team All-Pro who was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2010s Team as a punt returner.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will not play in Week 5 and could be facing a longer absence because of a hamstring injury, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

Jackson left the Ravens' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter on Sunday. The Ravens (1-3) play the Houston Texans (1-3) this week with a roster besieged by injuries.

Head coach John Harbaugh would not confirm the status of Jackson, but bit back at suggestions Jackson could have finished the loss to the Chiefs.

"There was no way he was going to go back into the game," Harbaugh said. "The injury precluded it. The way I know Lamar, if he could've gone in the game, he would've been in the game. That's how he is."

Without Jackson against the Texans, the Ravens are expected to turn to Cooper Rush. The former Cowboys backup was signed in the offseason to bring an experienced hand if Jackson was unavailable.

"If he's out there, it will be geared toward him," Harbaugh said of Rush. "We've got a good group around him. We have a lot of playmakers around him if he's playing. Same thing for Tyler Huntley if he's playing."

Already hurting at multiple key positions, the Ravens had other players leave Kansas City with ailments that could require multiple-game absences.

Linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Nate Wiggins (elbow) and left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) are all uncertain for Week 5. NFL Network reported Smith and Humphrey might miss 2-3 weeks.

The Ravens also lost two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike for the rest of the season due to a neck injury.

Madubuike was placed on injured reserve Saturday, about two weeks after reporting symptoms following Baltimore's Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Madubuike, 27, had two sacks in the first two games of the season and has amassed 203 tackles (42 for loss), 30 sacks and two forced fumbles in 78 career games (66 starts) for Baltimore since 2020.

Cleveland Guardians center fielder Angel Martinez swatted enough of a Tarik Skubal pitch in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series to inflict some damage, just not the kind that led to runs scored.

Martinez fouled off a Skubal pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning that struck a camera behind the plate shattering it. The foul ball forced a brief delay — approximately five minutes — as the grounds crew cleaned up the shattered glass.

Martinez ultimately got on base on a soft single to the middle of the infield to give the Guardians a baserunner.

That at-bat proved pivotal, as Martinez eventually crossed home plate to tie the Game at 1 with two outs in the inning. Martinez was initially ruled out on the play at the plate, but the Guardians won their challenge, overturning the call to safe.
